Educational Farms
fattoria-didatticheThe Educational Farms project is one of its kind in Italy, due to the number of farms involved in the region and the interaction and synergy between the public and private sectors.

Educational farms are working farms which open their doors to schools, families and adults. They bring people closer to the world of farming, starting with children.

The "tool" used here, namely the farm, offers links with the social, economic, technical, political and cultural dimension of the countryside or, more generally, of the environment.

Educational farms are for everyone: adults, teenagers and children.

Each farm is a world in itself which illustrates the wealth and diversity of farming (agrobiodiversity), its products and its rural landscapes; the most important aspect of this project, however, is that it familiarises visitors with the role of the farmer, gives them knowledge of rural culture and an insight into the passion of farmers for this job and their love for the land.

Educational Farms provide great "hands on" teaching opportunities for schools as they explain the link between the origin of farm produce and its purpose: to provide us with food. They are great meeting places where everyone can learn something and farmers, children and teachers can interact and share their experiences. A way for young people to discover the importance and values of a profession which is often undervalued.

Educational Farms in Emilia Romagna are regulated by Regional Law No. 4 dated 31 March 2009 "Regulations governing rural tourism and multifunctional farms" which defines educational farms, their educational programmes, requirements, controls and sanctions. Different regions in Italy have their own specific rules and regulations.
